Guillermo Portabales
Jose Guillermo Quesada del Catillo , known as Guillermo Portabales , is a singer and cuban guitarist born the April 6th 1911 in the province Cuba innate of Rodas, and dead with Puerto Rico in an accident the October 25th 1970.
The singer
Specialist in the Guajira , between the Years 1930 and the medium of the Years 1960, his voice with the accents melancholic persons and his style impresses elegance made it famous in all the Latin America. Its song " El carretero" was Reprise again per many cuban singers (of which Buena Vista Social Club), but also by other interpreters of the continent.
Biography
His/her father at 6 years loses. His/her mother remarie with Andre Portabales. From 11 to 18 years he works in a printing works, but also starts to sing and play of the guitar.- In 1928 it starts to sing with the radio of Cienfuegos, and will continue while working.
- In 1936 the singer Leopoldo Fernandez engages it for a round with Puerto Rico, where it is established.
- In 1939 it meets that which will be his wife, Arah Mina Lopez, Journaliste with the Magazine Somos, then starts, in its company, a vast round in South America.
- In 1940 it returns to work with the radio with Havana
- In 1953 it is established definitively in Puerto Rico, records much, but only sings very seldom in public.
- In 1970, it is reversed by a car and dies at the 59 years age.
