Reiser4 is version 4 of the Filesystem ReiserFS.

Exit in August 2004, this version brings like essential innovations:

  • of the atomic transactions: a modification is always completely carried out, or carried out at all. Thus the integrity of the filesystem is always preserved;
  • the “Dance hall trees”, which makes it possible to manage files of important size;
  • a system of plugins in order to facilitate the evolution.

Not integrated yet into the core official Linux 2.6, Reiser4 is however in the branch - mm of the core, maintained by Andrew Morton.
