Guillaume of Luxembourg

The prince Guillaume of Luxembourg is the oldest son of the large-duke Henri and the large duchess María Teresa, born María Teresa Mestre. He was born the November 11th 1981 with maternity Large-Duchess-Charlotte with Luxembourg. He has three brothers (Felix, Louis and Sebastien) and a sister (Alexandra).

After his primary educations at the public school of Lorentzweiler, the prince carries out his secondary studies with the Robert-Schuman college in Luxembourg and the Alpine Collège Beautiful Sun in Suisse, where it obtains his baccalaureat. Child, he was member of the choral society of Pueri Cantores in Luxembourg.

In the humane field, it took part in 1997 in a project of afforestation led to Nepal by the movement Luxembourg scout and in 1999 to a caritative mission to Aguascalientes to the Mexico.

With the autumn 2000, it obtains, at the nineteen years age, its first official role: presidency of the board of directors of the Kräizbierg foundation for the handicapped people.

Following the accession with the throne of his parents, the prince is officially named large-duke heir to Luxembourg the December 18th 2000 at the time of a ceremony to the large-ducal palate.

In 2001, it grants its high patronage to the Orchestra of harmony of the young people of the European Union, which sits at Luxembourg and has the role of promoting the young talented musicians in Europe. He off becomes also honorary president of the Board Economic Development and already carried out economic missions in South Korea, in Italy, in Russia, in Canada and the United States.

During the academic year 2001-2002, the large-duke heir follows a training of officer to the military royal Académie of Sandhurst (Great Britain). At the end of its formation, it is named with the rank of lieutenant in the Luxembourg army by a large-ducal decree of July 25th, 2002. In December 2002, it lends the oath of officer of the Luxembourg army to the Military Center of Diekirch in the presence of its family and of the authorities of the country. The large-duke heir is also knight of the Ordre of the Gold Lion of Nassau.

After its military formation, he undertakes academic works of international policy in Great Britain and Switzerland. He also carried out a training course in 2003 with the Belgian Chemical Union and a training course in 2004 in Deutsche Bank in London

The large-duke Guillaume heir is member of the Council of State since June 24th, 2005, which enables him to be associated with the political life country. In the sporting field, it grants its high patronage to the Fédération of the sport Luxembourg cyclist.

At the time of the twenty-fifth birthday of the large-duke Guillaume heir in 2006, Luxembourg emitted a Pièce commemorative of 2 euros, where its effigy appears at the sides of that of his/her father.

The large-duke Guillaume heir is the godfather of three children:

- the ARIANE princess of the Netherlands (born in 2007), girl of the crown prince Willem-Alexander and the Maximum princess to the Netherlands

- its nephew Noah de Nassau (born in 2007), wire of prince Louis of Luxembourg and Tessy de Nassau
