Guillaume V of Poitiers
Guillaume V of Poitiers known as Large the , born towards 969, dead the January 31st 1030 with the Abbey of Maillezais. Wire of Guillaume IV of Poitiers known as Fierabras and of Emma of Blois, girl of the count de Blois, Thibaud the Cheater. While succeeding his father who abdicates and withdraws with the Saint-Cyprien abbey of Poitiers in January 993, it becomes count de Poitiers (under the name of Guillaume III ) and duke of Aquitaine to his death.
This cultivated and pious prince has a peaceful reign, but not having qualities of man of war, it undergoes several reverses. It calls upon the king de France Robert II for subduing his vassal count of Walk Boson II, but their common forwarding shows a failure. It is beaten by Foulque Nerra, count d' Anjou, in which it gives up the Loudun board and the Mirebalais. The Vikings inflict a defeat in to him 1006. Finally it still cuts down its field by Confolens, Ruffec and Chabanais to reward its vassal count d' Angoulême, Guillaume III Taillefer.
Within the framework of the feudal fights , it obtains in 1020 of his/her friend Fulbert, bishop of Chartres, a council which has refers thereafter on the duties of reciprocal assistance and council between the suzerain and the Vassal.
It supports finally the installation of the Paix of God by Église.
When the Italians come in 1024 - 1025 to France to seek a king there, they choose Hugues, the son of king de France, Robert II. But in front of the refusal of this last, they come to ask Guillaume the Large one to accept this crown. This one leaves in Italy to discuss the proposal, before refusing for him and its son in front of the complexity of the Italian intrigues.

- Sancha de Gascogne, girl of Sanche Guillaume, duke of Gascogne.
- Agnes de Mâcon, girl of Otte Guillaume, count de Bourgogne and of count de Mâcon.
His/her son, Guillaume VI, born from Sancha him succède.
The Chronique ur Adémar de Chabannes wrote on Guillaume V true a Panégyrique which constitutes one of the independent sources on its reign.
