Biography

The mother of Guillaume VI of Hesse-Cassel, Amélie Elisabeth de Hanau-Münzenberg ensured regency until her majority. In spite of the defeat of Hesse-Cassel at the time of the War Thirty Year old, Amélie Elisabeth de Hanau-Münzenberg did not want to recognize the agreements of 1627. The principal article of this agreement stipulated that Hesse-Marburg returned from right to the heirs to Hesse-Darmstadt. Amélie Elisabeth de Hanau-Münzenberg, regent of the landgravat of Hesse-Cassel opened the hostilities. This war began in 1645 and lasted three three years. During this time, the troops of Hesse-Cassel besieged Marburg. In 1648, the war ended with a victory of Hesse-Cassel. The territories of Hesse-Marbourg returned to the landgravat of Hesse-Cassel, after the dissolution of the contract of 1627, a new agreement was concluded, Guillaume VI of Hesse-Cassel succeeds where his/her father had failed a few years before.
