Guillaume Mercader
Guillaume Mercader is resistant French born the December 17th 1914 with Urdos in the Yrénées-Atlantiques.
Installed for Bayeux in the Apple-brandy, Guillaume Mercader intends himself for high level cycling, it becomes one of best the runner of Normandy when the Second world war bursts. He engages in the Foreign legion and takes part in the combat of 1940. Demobilized, it returns to Bayeux and deals with its shop of cycles while integrating the Résistance. It becomes responsible for its network the civil Organization and soldier, in the Bessin. It carries out many missions of information on defenses of the Atlantic Wall. Its statute of professional cyclist enables him to traverse the roads of Bessin with bicycle without attracting the suspicion of the Germans. It accommodates the Général de Gaulle on June 14th 1944 for its return on the French soil and the guide in Bayeux until the sub-prefecture, where de Gaulle installs her provisional government. Guillaume Mercader engages then at the sides of the allied troops and takes part in the release of Europe.
Returned peace, Guillaume Mercader turns over to his passion, cycling and takes the direction of a team for whom it makes sign its first contract with Jacques Anquetil.
It takes then the direction of the newspaper the Rebirth of Bessin, which was the first newspaper to be appeared in Free France.
Guillaume Mercader is officer of the Légion of Honor, decorated with the Military Cross 1939-1945, of the Médaille of Resistance, Bronze Star and King' S medal.
