Biography

1039 the archbishop of Besancon, Hugues Ier Saline, becomes the right-hand man favorite of new the Germanic emperor, Henri III of the Holy roman Empire (nephew of preceding). 1085 Guillaume Ier of Burgundy is affirmed like the most important character of the county of Burgundy and puts the hand on the ecclesiastical capacity after the death of the powerful archbishops of Besancon, Hugues Ier the Saline ones and Hugues II while making there order its sons Hugues III of Burgundy Archevêque and Guy of Burgundy (future Pope under the name of Calixte II) administrator of the Diocèse of his/her brother.
1087 it dies with Besancon with old 67 years and is buried with the Saint-Etienne cathedral, replaced with the XVIIIe century by the Cathédrale Midsummer's Day, where the burials were transferred from the counts de Bourgogne.
Its sons Renaud II of Burgundy and Etienne Ier of Burgundy succeed to him and die in Croisade in Holy Land, followed in that by their brother Raymond of Burgundy, king de Leon and of Galicia, which will largely weaken the capacity of their family.
