Guillaume Ier de Ponthieu , known as Talvas († 1171) were count de Ponthieu of 1110 with 1126, lord d' Alençon and of Séez (under the name of Guillaume III ) of 1119 with 1171. It was wire of Robert II of Bellême, lord d' Alençon, Viscount of Hiémois, lord of Bellême and Count de Shrewsbury, and of Agnès, countess of Ponthieu.

His/her father was a noble Anglo-Norman who, although faithful of William the Conqueror, sought to become independent with dead of this last and frequently revolted against wire of Guillaume. Henri {{Ier}} Beauclerc ends by him to confiscate its English grounds in 1102 and up imprisoning it in 1112. Robert de Bellême had been cruel to his wife, so much so that this one flees, took refuge at the court of Blois, then settled in Ponthieu. She died there between 1106 and 1110 and Guillaume Talvas became count de Ponthieu. In 1119, Henri Beauclerc returns to Guillaume Talvas part of the confiscated fields to his/her father.

To devote itself to its businesses Normans, he entrusts Ponthieu to his son Guy in 1126. In the conflict which opposes Henri of England to Geoffroy Plantagenêt, count d' Anjou, it chooses the count of Anjou, and Henri takes to him the castles of Alençon and Argentan. He benefits from dead from king Henri Ier to take again Alençon. The death of the king announces a war of succession between Mathilde, girl of the king and wife of Geoffroy Plantagenêt, and Etienne of Blois, nephew of the king. Whereas the majority of the close lords join in Etienne, Guillaume remains faithful to Geoffroy and Mathilde, and it must be defended against Rotrou of the Pole and Richard of the Eagle. In 1147, it follows the king Louis VII the Young person at the time of the Second crusade. With its return, a litigation opposes it to Henri II Plantagenêt, the new count d' Anjou and duke of Normandy, and this last takes again Alençon to him. To be avenged, Guillaume devastates the zone located between the Pole and Normandy.

After having founded several religious establishments, whose Abbey of Perseigne, Guillaume Talvas dies on June 29th, 1171.

Marriage and children

He had married towards 1115 Helene of Burgundy (v. 1080 † 1141), girl of Eudes {{Ier}}, duke of Burgundy, and Sibyl of Burgundy, and widow of Bertrand of Toulouse. From this marriage had been born:
  • Guy II († 1147), count de Ponthieu;
  • Guillaume, associated with the government of the county of Alençon, but died between 1166 and 1171;
  • Robert, listed in 1127;
  • Enguerrand, listed in 1127;
  • Mabille, listed in 1127;
  • Jean {{Ier}} († 1191), count d' Alençon;
  • Clemence († before 1189), married to Juhel, lord of Mayenne;
  • Ela († 1174), married to Guillaume III of Warenne, Count de Surrey, then in Patrick FitzWalter, Count de Salisbury.
