Guillaume Ier de Hainaut
Guillaume Ier de Hainaut , known as the Good , born towards 1286, died in Valencian the June 7th 1337, was count de Hainaut, of Holland (under the name of Guillaume III ) and of Zealand of 1304 with 1337. It was wire of Jean Ier, count de Hainaut, of Holland and Zealand, and Filipino of Luxembourg.
Young person, it took an active share with the fights of his family against the rival line of Dampierre, which had the Comté of Flanders. He eliminated in particular the troops Flemish which had come to assistance of Zélandais revolted, and subjected this county. His/her Jean older brother having died in 1302 with the battles of Courtrai, it became the heir to the counties of Hainaut, of Holland and Comté of Zealand
Become count, it put fine at the abuses the clergy and the nobility as regards lifting of taxes. The March 21st 1322, it thus granted to the inhabitants Genly the privilege to be governed by a law in conformity with that of Mons.
In 1325, it also helped the Queen of England Isabelle de France to assemble a forwarding against the king Edouard II and its Favori S Despencer. To the occasion, the future king Edouard III of England was promised in marriage to Philippa de Hainaut. In 1327, it helped Louis of Nevers, count de Flandre to subject revolted Flemish and fought with the Bataille of Cassel. In 1334, it has succeeded in negotiating peace between Louis of Nevers and the duke of the Brabant Jean III then in war for two years.
At the beginning of the Guerre One hundred Year old it took the party of his son-in-law Edouard III, king d' Angleterre, against his brother-in-law the king of France Philippe VI of Valois and formed a coalition with the king of England, the duke of the Brabant, the duke of Gueldre, the archbishop of Cologne and the count de Juliers. But he died shortly after.

He had married the May 19th 1305 Jeanne de Valois (1294 † 1342) girl of Charles of France, count de Valois, of Anjou, of Maine, of Alençon, etc … and of Marguerite of Anjou. They had:- Jean, died in 1316

- Marguerite (° 1310 - † 1356), countess of Hainaut, Holland and Zealand, married to Louis IV of Bavaria, Germanic Roman Emperor
- Philippa (° 1311 - † 1369), married in 1328 with Edouard III of England
- Jeanne (° 1315 - † 1374), married in 1334 with Guillaume V (° 1315 - † 1362), duke of Juliers
- Agnes, died after 1327
- Isabelle (° 1323 - † 1361), married in 1354 with Robert de Namur (° 1323 - † 1391), lord of Beaufort-on-Meuse.
