Guillaume IV of Hesse , known as the Wise , (Wilhelm IV von Hessen-Kassel), born the June 24th 1532 with Cassel, deceased the August 25th 1592 with Cassel.
It was a Landgrave of Hesse-Cassel of 1567 with 1592.

Biography
Guillaume IV of Hesse-Cassel began his reign by protecting the Church reformed in his landgravat, it worked without slackening in order to unify Protestantism and Catholicism. The Pacific, it was not very inclined to have the military force to regulate the various conflicts.
Guillaume IV of Hesse-Cassel was a statesman equipped with a rare energy, he published several ordinances, appointed experienced officials. He published a law on primogeniture in order to avoid in Hesse-Cassel a division of the grounds as it was the case with his/her father.
He protected the letters, arts and sciences, and cultivated itself the Astronomie. He was a pioneer in astronomical research, perhaps even he remained in our reports thanks to his scientific discoveries. In 1584 it made adopted with Cassel the instruments of the Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe.
One has of him astronomical observations, published under the title of Coeli and siderum in eo errantium observationes Hassiacse , Leyde, 1628.
Guillaume IV of Hesse-Cassel belonged to the first branch of the Maison of Hesse, itself resulting from the first branch of the House of the Brabant. Guillaume IV of Hesse was the founder of the oldest line of the House of Hesse, this nonextinct line has for ascending the Voters of Hesse and Hesse-Philippstal.
