Guillaume III of Poitiers
Guillaume III of Poitiers , known as Guillaume Head of Packing , (born in 910 - died the April 3rd 963 with Saint-Maixent, Two-Sevres), count de Poitiers under the name of Guillaume Ier starting from 934, and duke of Aquitaine under that of Guillaume III. He succeeds his father Ebles Manzer. It is also called the Pieux .
Ever recognized duke of Aquitaine by the royal chancellery, it carried from 959 the title of count of the duchy of Aquitaine , then that of duke of Aquitaine after 962. Faithful to Louis d' Outremer, it obtains the load of Saint-Hilaire-the-Large abbot of , load which remained attached to that of count de Poitiers thereafter.
He marries Adèle, girl of Rollon, duke of Normandy. He has two children of them:
- the duke Guillaume IV Arm-of-Iron (935 - 993)
- the princess Adelaide of Aquitaine (952 - 1004) wife of the king de France Hugues Capet.
It creates a bookstore (Bibliothèque) ducal in its palate of Poitiers.
