Guillaume-Benoit Houdet
Guillaume-Benoit Houdet (1744 - 1812) is elected appointed Tiers state of the bailliage of Meaux to the General states of 1789.
Wire of Denis Charles Houdet, clerk of the bailliage of Meaux, it succeeded his father in this load. Born on February 10th, 1722 in Meaux (77), parish Saint Nicolas's Day, it is bachelor of law on July 27th, 1776 and passes its oath of lawyer to the Parliament on August 22nd, 1776, where he is also Police chief-enquéteur as from 1777. It was first alderman of the town of Meaux as of 1773, then Maire of 1784 at 1790. criminal Lieutenant-general of the seat présidial and the bailliage of Meaux of 1776 to 1789 and adviser of the King. Elected official appointed in 1789, it lined up with the Assembly-Main road among the moderate ones. He was present during the Meeting of Jeu de Paume, on June 20th, 1789. Then, threat by the Mountain dwellers, continued under Terror, for its moderate ideas and condemned to death, he is imprisoned in Oise in October 1793, escapes in September 1794 and hides from it temporarily in Brittany. It reappears quickly in Meaux and Castle-Thierry. It is put under monitoring of the Minister for the Police force, (under house arrest). November 8th, 1798, it is stopped, imprisoned with the prison of the Temple, in Paris, suspected “of emigration and libelous matter against two directors”. The municipal councils of Meaux and Castle-Thierry give their supports to him, of the good citizenship and certificates of residence and contradicted the remarks. It is released in 1799.
It also had properties with Castle-Thierry, where it set and was elected mayor of 1800 to 1805. Anobli by Royal decree of September 6th, 1814, not followed letters patent because of its death, but promoted with title postume, chevalier of the Legion of Honor, on September 24th, 1814, with the Cross about Malta.
He had married in first weddings Francoise Justine Petit, then in second weddings on February 17th, 1784 with Castle-Thierry (02), Antoinette Francoise Marie Nicole Prévost of Brigauderie.
He dies in Castle-Thierry, on March 15th, 1812.
Its portrait, painted with oil, is with the Town hall of Meaux.
