A guild (other orthographies: gilde or ghilde ), of old the Dutch gilde , is a name designating at the beginning (XIe - XIVe centuries) an assembly of people practitioner an activity common, and equipped with rules and precise privileges.

Recently, the term indicates a private association having a precise goal. Example: the Guild of the Laughter, association Belgian, gathers people of all horizons in the common objective of collective funs.

Ecology

In ecology, it is a whole of species belonging to the same group taxonomic or functional and which exploit a common resource, thus one expects a strong interspecific competition between the members of a guild.

Guilds of on-line plays

General

Today a guild of players is a term largely used in the field of the Video games. A guild is a Communauté gathered around one or several play (X). The plays which can have guilds are generally plays which can be played on Internet, and particularly those which are played only on Internet such as for example MMORPG. (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Play Range or in French " roleplays on line massively multijoueur" )

Interests

The purpose of the guilds are to gather a certain number of players ( members ) to create true small a Communauté.
This community can be used for:
  • To help the weakest players
  • To make Trade or Barter
  • To achieve goals impossible to make
  • individually Belong at a community powerful and recognized in the universe of the play in question
  • And quite simply be made a group of friends with whom play
The orientation of a guild is laid down by it by the créateurs.
In certain plays, the taking into account of the guilds is very important and of the special options are developed such as for example the possibility of buying buildings reserved for the guild.

Organization

Generally, the guilds have a hierarchy clear and defined with a hierarchical chief and several rows. The rise in the hierarchy can give new rights such as for example accepting new membres.
The manner of entering a guild is very variable according to the guilds. Some accept all the players while making the request (even ask to the players to return), others are very élitistes and accept a player only after this one proved reliable (in the play or not) and that it made a particular series of actions (examples: covering letter, participation in the forum of the guild during a certain time…). The large guilds often have a dedicated Internet site and use much the forums.
