Guido Ubaldo Abbatini

Guido Ubaldo Abbatini (Città di Castello, 1600 - Rome, 1656) is an Italian painter Baroque which was active in Rome and Usigni, Frazione of Poggiodomo.

Biography

Young apprentice in Rome in the workshop of the Riding of Arpin and then appreciated his contemporaries as fresquist, he was not however an original artist, while adapting only to the manner of the Masters with whom he collaborated. Meanwhile, in addition to carrying out, in the first years 1630, of modest orders of paintings into clearly-obscure and trompe-l'oeil in the basilica of San Pietro, it also fills the load of mosaïste, while collaborating in 1634 with the major artist of the kind, Giovanni Battista Calandra, with the decoration of the vault of the Madonna and in 1644, with died of Calendered, it supplements decoration according to its paperboards. In 1649 it restores the mosaic of the Navicella in the gate of the basilica.

With the the Vatican, in the Room of Charlemagne, it paints the fresco gone back to 1635 to the 1637, and in the room of the countess Mathilde de Canossa the frescos, on paperboards of Giovanni Francesco Romanelli, representatives the Scènes of the life of the countess Mathilde , carried out between 1637 and 1642.

In the church of San Nicolò, with Scheggino, in the Province of Perugia, the retable of the Madonna in gloria E santi is allotted to him, gone back to 1644. Always in Ombrie, it paints in 1654, a series of paintings to fresco on a commission of the cardinal Fausto Poles, for the church of San Fortunato in Poggioprimocaso, meadows of Cascia.

About 1653 he is entrusted to him, still for the Basilica of San Pietro, the order to decorate with mosaic the vault with Sacramento while in 1654 he decorates, on projects with Pietro de Cortona, the vault of the cupola of the vault of San Sebastiano.

Few of other works, only prestigious under the terms of the commission agent, are allotted to him: two portraits of Urbain VIII, one with the national Gallery of old art of Rome and the other in private collection, the portrait of Innocent X and the cardinal Rinaldo d' Este, preserved in private collections and that of the cardinal Francesco Barberini, in the Chigi palate with Ariccia, meadows of Rome. One preserves some of his projects in the communal Library of Urbania.
