Guido Müller

Guido Müller , born with Linn in 1875 and died in Bienne in 1963 is a Political personality Suisse.

Biography

Orphan of father as of the 10 years age, it lives with his grandmother, who exploited a laundry with Boujean, small commune close to Bienne (with which Boujean will amalgamate in 1916). Of 1893 with 1907, it works in railroad companies, of which that of the Jungfrau.

He teaches then at the school of transport of Bienne, before launching out in policy under the banner of the Swiss Socialist party. Initially mayor of Nidau (another small town in edge of Bienne), he becomes then chancellor, then Maire of Bienne of 1921 with 1947.

Under its impulse, Bienne will experience an important development, with the transformation of districts and the construction of emblematic buildings, of which the House of the People and the Elite hotel. The city increases by fusion with the communes of Vigneules (1900), Boujean (1916), Mâche and Madretsch (1919), and the creation of new districts. On the other hand, a merger plan between Bienne and Nidau, accepted in popular voting by the inhabitants of the two communes in 1920, will fail in front of the Grand the Council Bernese and the Federal court, in 1921. Guido Müller is also known to have attracted in Bienne the American company General Motors, which contributed to the industrial rise of the city, mainly centered on the clock industry.

Mayor of Bienne, Guido Müller occupies initially the load of director of Public works, then the Management of finances, before being elected to the National council of 1925 with 1943. He is the author of several publications on his city. A place on its behalf was set up, at the border between the two cities of which he was mayor, Bienne and Nidau.
