Guide wave
A guide of wave is a system which is used to guide the electromagnetic waves or the acoustic waves. The guide of wave is in particular used in Physique, Optique and Télécommunication…
To guide the waves, the system generally consists of two different materials. It can also be made up of only one material with a Gradient of index.
The material depends on the electromagnetic Specter of the waves which one wants to guide:
- in the " part; visible" (optics), one can use a Fiberoptic;
- in the microwaves, it is a hollow metal hull…
According to the size of the guide, that Ci can be monomode, i.e. it supports only one mode or then multimode, i.e. it will support several modes. A mode corresponds to a space configuration of the electromagnetic field. According to the distribution of the field, each mode sees an index different from materials constituting the guide of wave depending on each mode. The index seen by each definite mode the effective index.
