Guichard Tavelli

Guichard Tavelli was bishop of Sion between 1342 and 1375. It repurchased the Château of Majorie the January 15th 1373 in order to make the new episcopal residence of it. He was assassinated following a conflict with the family of the Tower. Edouard of Savoy succeeded to him.

Assassination

He was assassinated the August 8th 1375 by Antoine of the Tower, the son of Pierre of the Tower (lord of Niedergesteln) which wished to be released from the episcopal authority. The murder took place with the residence of Tavelli, with the Château of Silk to Savièse. The men of Antoine were introduced into the castle of Tavelli whereas this one was in its garden and threw it top of the hill bordered of rocks. The allies of Antoine of the Tower disapproved with vehemence this act and turned to Pierre de Rarogne. This new alliance signed the end of the influence of the family of the Tower whose possessions - in High-Were worth, as well as the Château of Vidomnes - were destroyed.
