History
The etymology of the Name of the Village, associated very a long time with the German Garten , would come in fact from the name from an obscure Germanic chief, Garto or Gerto . The Suffix ing , very frequent in the area, means among people of . The Ban of Guerting is attended as of the prehistoric time, but rare the Vestige S found does not make it possible to know if it is about a sedentary occupation or momentary. With the Roman epoch, various well attested establishments exist, such as the great agricultural domain of Blittling and its dependences, the site of the Gauvenner , as well as the Roman ways. Römerburren , Tile S of Roman origin found in the foundations of the church, were this thesis. But with the cruel invasions begins for Guerting an archaeological long silence from a Millénaire.
Document S Manuscrit S prove an occupation of the site Village ois as of and the Population depends until the French revolution on the Seigneurie on Warsberg. Hard Génération S follow one another without leaving personal traces until in 1585. To the 17th century, various more complete documents bring from now on better explanations on the population. The Guerre Thirty Year old dislocates the community and the population flees towards the large Luxembourg and the Ville S Rhenish. The village is deserted during nearly twenty years. Three Famille S return to settle in 1662 and the raising begins very slowly, to start to accelerate only at the end of the 17th century. The population of this time carries out a long term job, including/understanding the repairing of the Ban, the rebuilding of the dwellings and the religious monuments. At the time of the ducal Census of 1708, Guerting counts already twenty Feu X, that is to say seventy-seven inhabitants, divided between forty-five communicants and thirty-two not-communicants. The population proves to be very young.
In 1754, the village doubled and shelters from now on hundred eighty-five heart S. the Population of this time is strongly subjected to the epidemic S and tributary of the Récolte S. the Parcelle S of cultures decrease with the Héritage S and the Village many account from now on daily, which do nothing but live sparely one year on the other. Also certain families leave Guerting towards 1770 and leave to settle in the Banat, in spite of prohibitions of the authorities. One half-century later, the population again doubled and in 1822, one counts three hundred ninety-five inhabitants. In 1851, Guerting reaches a demographic maximum with five hundreds - seven inhabitants. The Misère of the Population shows through in the notes of the municipal councils. The sale of the communal goods, the support for poor, cannot help a big part of the population subjected of full whip to the economic crisis associated with the crisis of potato of the years 1846 - 1848. The opening of the line of Railroad Saint-Avold - Paris, as of 1852, facilitates the departures of many families towards the great urban centres and especially towards the Capitale. The migrants will join friends, parents, who found an employment to them, a housing. With Paris, this population massively settles in the XIII {{E}} district and one continues, for a time at least, to marry between German-speaking Mosellans. In the twenty years space, it is nearly one hundred fifty people who leave the village. The Recensement S betray only imperfectly this phenomenon because the natural balance remains very high and the reduction in population appears of this fact less important.
The annexation with the Germany in 1870 and the difficulties of the Agriculture in the Années 1880 maintain this Rural migration long-lived, and Guerting still loses cent-treize inhabitants until in 1890. Between 1890 and 1900, a opposite Phénomène occurs. Certain families having gained sufficient money, they return to the country. The Small-Rosselle opening of the mines of coal of then of Creutzwald, at the end of the 19th century, deeply transforms the use and the life of Guertingeois of the 20th century. The full employment makes it possible to remain to live on the spot and the Croissance of the Population is quasi constant. In 1999, Guerting counts eight hundred and fifty-nine inhabitants. Throughout the 20th century, they are especially young people in age to marry who leave Guerting to settle near their employment. The facility of displacements involves increasingly remote departures in parallel.
To protect the populations located between the Border and the Line Maginot, the Autorité S French make them evacuate as of the declaration of war, on September 1st, 1939. Except the Minor S, directed towards the coal mines, especially in the Pas-de-Calais, the other inhabitants are accommodated by the Village of Bouresse, in the Vienna. Guerting remained dependant of friendship with Bouresse and the exchanges are done every two years.
The Langue spoken by the inhabitants is of always the francic, but the French supplants it gradually.
Administration
Demography
Strong the Natalité of 1900 with 1920 naturally increases the population which reaches six hundreds - fifty inhabitants in 1926. A mini-crisis assigns the carboniferous to Houve of 1927 with 1933, from where some departures towards others Industrie S Lorraine S. After the second world war, the full employment at the collieries maintains at the village the young people in age to found a Famille. The difficulties to find a ground to build in the Années 1960 oblige many young people Ménage S to settle in the surrounding communes. The contrary Phénomène occurs when the commune built the Lotissement of the Forêt in 1976 and arranges the dead end of the Meadows in 1985. The owners of constructible grounds, tired to keep them for their descents which do not find employment in the area, sell them to the candidates with construction starting from the Années 1990.

Celebrates cherries
It is about the greatest ludic demonstration of the 20th century in the Canton of Boulay. The closing of the border of the Saar after the referendum of January 1st 1935 created a concern to run out cherries. The Company of Music organizes a festival of cherries on July 7th 1935 to help the producers to sell their fruits. The election of a queen of cherries is a first in the area. The concept of this festival given up in 1940 because of the war is mainly taken again in 1954. One adds to it each year important a Corso. The last festival of cherries took place in the meadows on the right of the versatile room, July 2nd and 3rd 1988.
Kirsch
The history of brandy or schnapps starts in the middle of the 19th century when the foundries of Creutzwald deforest the plate of Espen, in the North-West of the village. Family members Job, traders out of wooden and originating in Guerting, become owners had other solutions to destroy the stocks only to cultivate barley. The three farms (St-Jean, St-Nicolas and St-Jules) built respectively into 1850,1852 and 1881 will have each one their stills. This production of very average quality weakens at the end of the century. The carpenter Jean-Pierre Jager buys in 1892 a still and installs it in its house, nowadays 70 rue Principale. It will function until 1978. The trade union of the nurserymen will take over in the old room of collecting of milk. Completely refitted this room is currently equipped with two stills but knows significant drops of its linked activity to the state of the trees and the behavioral change. Another still will function of 1936 to 1983 at Reslinger Georges with 14 rue du Ruisseau. The fruit trees and especially the cherry trees, are planted in the grounds rough or moved away. They proliferate throughout the 20th century by the progressive abandonment of the family agricultural activities. The black cherry of Guerting is the local speciality.
Cable television
In 1963, Guerting was the first village cabled of France. In 1983, the sociocultural Center of animation conceived, financed and animated the first named French local TV TVG (Tele Guerting Video). The village is the only one in France to diffuse on the cable network all the celebrations on line since the church, and to have retransmis two masses consecutive by France 2 and the production the Sunday the October 31st and November 1st, 1993.
Associations
At the beginning of the 20th century, it is good to gather to help. Animations are thus primarily nuns until the arrival of the Willwohl abbot in 1928. This reversal is the sign of a popular awakening which is developing until in the Années 1990. The festival of the cherries is a large vector of the associative Dynamique by its originality and its resonance in the area. Know-how is a long time undeniable and associations of the surroundings came to draw ideas at the village. For one decade, popular know-how has been blown for lack of initiative and especially availability. The company changed. The individual ludic possibilities induced by digital technologies, the framing and the professionalisation of the popular activities, helped social employment, the protection of the goods and the people, alienated the voluntary spirit of initiative considerably.
