Guerrita

Rafael Guerra Bejarano known as “Guerrita” , born with Cordoue (Spain) the March 6th 1862, died with Cordoue the February 21st 1941, was a Spanish Matador.

Presentation

“Guerrita” was undoubtedly one of the largest matadors of its time, perhaps even largest: unsurpassable with the Banderillas, of a perfect control with the Muleta , infallible with the sword. It is made initially Banderillero as it is frequent at the time and quickly acquires a reputation which exceeds that of maestro that it assists, initially “Bocanegra”, then Fernando Gómez “El Gallo”.

It takes the alternate with Madrid (Spain) the September 29th 1887, with like godfather “Lagartijo”, vis-a-vis bulls of Gallardo.

After its alternative, it will crush all its rivals during ten years: “El Espartero”, Antonio Reverte, Antonio Fuentes, “Algabeño”, “Bombita”, “Largatijo” and Shine Mazzantini. One counts in his legend the day of the May 19th 1895 where it took part in three bullfights of sharp: at seven o'clock in the morning with San Fernando (Province of Cadiz), vis-a-vis bulls of Saltillo; at eleven hours with Sherry of Frontera (province of Cadiz) vis-a-vis bulls of Cámara; at five hours and half with Seville, vis-a-vis bulls of Murube. There it kills this day nine bulls with nine thrusts and a Descabello.

“Guerrita” was also famous for its short phrases and its frank speech. With young bullfighters come to ask him council and which ask him to “Maestro that is what is most difficult to make in track? ” Answer: “To spit. ” With aficionados which require of him with what it allots its success: “With the fact that the bull has horns. If it did not have horns, there would be thousands of Guerrita. ” With the king Alphonse XIII which invites it to play failures: “Lord, I thank you, but I do not play this set of pedals. ” One also knows his judgment on the hierarchy taurine with its, time: “Initially there is me, after me there is nobody, and after anybody, Fuentes. ”

Its domination without division, its exorbitant seals, end up wearying the public which decries it more than of reason. One also reproaches him for choosing the bulls which it will fight, which ends up pushing Mazzantini and Reverte to require a drawing lot.

The October 15th 1899, at the conclusion of a bullfight with Saragossa, it announces its retirement, bitter informant: “I from do not go away from the bulls, one drives out me. ”
