Guerman Stepanovitch Titov (in Russian: ГерманСтепановичТитов ) was a Soviet cosmonaut born the September 11th 1935 and deceased the September 20th 2000.

Biography

Guerman Titov and Youri Gagarine were both selected in the first group of cosmonaut planned for the first space mission of the history on board Vostok 1, the 1st group military (TsPK-1) .
Whereas they were equal competences, the final choice of the first man in space was made by Nikita Khrouchtchev, which preferred Youri Gagarine, for purely political reasons. Indeed this one, wire of a family of workmen, was more close to the ideal image of the Soviet Prolétarien. Guerman Titov, was to him wire of a teacher and thus less representative of the majority of the people soviétique.

Flight carried out

Titov carried out a single flight on board Vostok 2, the August 6th 1961. On this occasion, it beat the record of the duration of flight while increasing it to more than one day. It is on this occasion that he was also the first spationaut to be suffered from the Mal of space.
It always currently holds (2007) the record of the youngest spationaut sent in space (less than 26 years).
