Gueb Off Freedom
Gueb Of Freedom (or G.O.F) is an English rock group formed in 1977, which founded the style Speed metal taken again later by other prestigious English groups.
The group separated in 1992 after 4 albums and a hundred from concerts.
It is sometimes confused with Gang off Furnace of which it has the same initial ones.
History
Beginnings
G.O.F is formed in 1977 in Eastbourne in Great Britain. It is then composed of Jeffrey Howells Smith, Matthew McDobel (Britannicus) and of August O' Loman, three impassioned dunces of Rock' roll. Their music takes a fast and jerked turning very quickly, then founding a new style of rock'n'roll which they qualify to them-even " speed-rock". Not great a deal to actually see with speed-metal such as it today is known if it is not the speed of the agreements which make the music extremely aggressive for the ears of the time.
June 17th, 1977 takes place in Brighton the first appearance of the group in a pub, the " Gueb". Growing success, they connects concerts on concerts until 1979. They then decide to leave their first album, heading quite simply Gueb Of Freedom and thus return in the court of large.
The apogee of the group
In 1981, Aurelian Witner and Andy Loc (which will be called Winden-Burger), two friends of childhood of Jeffrey Howells and members of an small group, Witom there integrate the group. Of bad influence, they will contribute to the negative image of the group that one knows to him today.
Together they produce Gueb' S Not Dead in 1982 and The Free Gueb in Bondage in 1983.
In 1983, " Never you man" fact scandal in the press. Indeed, the words homophobes of the song shock the homosexual community of Brighton. The 33 turns will be withdrawn from the sale three days after its exit. The rare still existing copies of this disc are estimated at several thousands of books.
They will still produce the individual ones but more any album. One can among these individual retain " The Wrong People Tel. us" or " Painting has new sky".
Descent into Hell
In 1986, Andy, reached of a degenerative disease, leaves the group. The group then starts a one year old station-wagon. With end of forces, Andy Loc dies on January 18th, 1988 in a hospital of London. The group undergoes at this time a long questioning, but the members finally decide to continue the adventure Gueb Of Freedom, by engaging successively Zacharias Berney, Phillip McDobel (the brother of Matthew McDobel) with the keyboard. Both will make only one short passage in the group and will not mark this one of their personality. In 1989, the group finally decides to do without the keyboard in their group. Their concerts change personality, more blacks, more sordid than previously.
In addition, the first signs of tension appear between the members of the group. Jeffrey and Mathhew have indeed more and more evil to accept the destruction of Aurelian (which refuses to be looked after of its addiction to drug). Moreover, Jenny Coster, the ex-wife of Matthew McDobel (married in 1981, divorced in 1986) Marie with August O' Loman in December 1990.
Anguish, death
The group remains until 1992. The tensions between the bad lots of the WitomY ex-group will have finally been right of the group. Jeffrey, exceeded by the drug addict attitude of Aurelian snap the door the first, follow-up of near by Matthew. They however make a point of giving a last concert, in the famous pub of their beginnings, Gueb. It is the end of a mythical, precursory group of a new musical genre. Although the members remaining took a beater endowed to replace Jeffrey Howell, Viktor Krapovitch, the group will still create some songs but the album will never leave, the songs not having been voted by plebiscite by the fans. The last branch of the group separates in 1994 and will never reform itself.
Epilog
Matthew McDobel and Jeffrey Howells Smith tries both a career in solo without great successes. Fans will claim to have seen Jeffrey in a television game in 1996, not easily verifiable declaration.
Aurelian Witner is deceased on June 17th, 2007 in its apartment of London probably of an overdose. It had been many times challenged during the four last years for possession and consumption of narcotics.
According to an English magazine going back to 2005, Mattew McDobel would live from now on in Manchester and would be waiter in a bar. It would have cut all the bridges with the other members of the group and definitively drawn a feature on its musical career.
Viktor Krapovitch would have, according to an American magazine, summer stopped by the police force of Los Angeles, in 2004, for possession of narcotics. He would have escaped from the prison where he had been locked up for 3 months, and will have finished in a psychiatric hospital of Michigan.
