Guarani (currency)

The guarani (plural: guaraníes; code ISO 4217: PYG) is the monetary unit Paraguay. The guaraní was divided into 100 " Céntimo s", but because of inflation, the " céntimos" are not used any more.
A law creating the guaraní was voted the October 5th 1943, to replace the Peso at the rate of 1 guaraní = 100 pesos. The first guaraníes were emitted in 1944. The name of the currency was given in reference to the ones of the indigenous tribes of Paraguay. From 1960 to 1982, the guaraní was related to the American dollar at the rate of 126 PYG for 1 USD.
