Guadarrama

Guadarrama is a city of the autonomous Communauté of Madrid in Spain.

The population is of 13032 inhabitants in winter (figures 2006) and roughly 60000 in summer.

Founded by the Arabs, Guadarrama obtains the statute of “villa” under Fernando V of Castille (Ferdinand II of Aragon) the November 22nd, 1504. Fernando VI ordered the construction of the road with Corogne by the passage of Guadarrama, which was an important city during the Guerre of Spain. After the end of the war of Spain, it had to be rebuilt almost completely. After one short period when it was famous for its sanatoria of Tuberculose, it became important like tourist site and second residence for the inhabitants of Madrid.
