Guadalupe Victoria

Guadalupe Victoria (1786, Tamazula Mexico - March 21st 1843, Perote) was President of Mexico of 1824 with 1829.

Origins

It was born with Tamazula in current the state from Durango. Its Christian name is Jose Miguel Ramón Adaucto Fernández there Felix but it chooses in 1811 the name of Guadalupe Victoria in homage to Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe (Mexican appearance of the Virgin Mary), and Victoria meaning Victoire. He studies the right to the Colegio de San Ildefonso.

Revolutionist

In 1811 it joint with the revolution proclaimed by Miguel Hidalgo and fights at the sides of Jose María Morelos there Pavón. After the capture and the execution of Morelos it fights with Oaxaca and Veracruz.

After its defeat close to the town of Palmillas in the current state of Veracruz, it hides in the mountains until the promulgation of the Plan of Iguala (February 24th 1821) by Agustín de Iturbide and Vicente Guerrero, which calls in independent Mexico, controlled by a Constitutional monarchy. July 21st 1822, Iturbide is crowned Augustin Ier, constitutional emperor of Mexico.

Convinced republican, it supports then Antonio López de Santa Anna and signs the Plan Put Subdued (December 1822) of which the goal is to reverse the Iturbide Emperor who is constrained to abdicate on March 19th 1823.

President

October 10th 1824, he becomes the first president of the republic of Mexico.

During its mandate, it abolishes slavery, founds the Colegio Militar (" Academy militaire"), sign a diplomatic treaty with the the United Kingdom. He is the first President of Mexico to repeat at the date birthday the famous Grito de Dolores of Miguel Hidalgo.

He dies of epilepsy to Perote in the state of Veracruz, in 1843 where he is buried. The August 25th 1845 it is declared Benemérito of Patria (" Hero of Nation") by the Congreso of Unión of Mexico City (Parliament of Mexico). In 1925 its remainders will be deposited in the Mausolée located at the base of El Ángel of Independencia to Mexico City. It rests there in company of: Juan Aldama, Ignacio Allende, Nicolás Cheer, Vicente Guerrero, Miguel Hidalgo there Costilla, Jose Mariano Jiménez, Mariano Matamoros, Francisco Javier Undermined, Jose María Morelos there Pavón, Andrés Quintana Roo and Leona Vicario
