Gryffondor
House in the saga Harry Potter written by J.K. Rowling
The author makes of it for the first time mention in the volume 1, in the chapter 6
Gryffondor is one of the four houses of the prestigious school of Scottish sorcery Poudlard. This house was founded by Godric Gryffondor. Its blazon is a gold lion drawn up on its two legs and a red bottom, since the colors of Gryffondor are gold and the red. Its Phantom is Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington, alias Nick Quasi-Without-Head. Principal quality to belong to this house is courage. As for all the houses, it is the magic Choixpeau (the old hat of Godrid Gryffondor) which, at the beginning of the first year, determines in which house the pupils will be sent.
The common room of the house is in the Tower of Gryffondor, one can reach it, via the seventh stage, with its entry. This one is located behind the portrait of the Grosse Lady out of pink silk dress. After him to have said the password in progress, its portrait swivels to reveal a hole in the wall. The common room is furnished with large marrowy armchairs, a chimney and tables. A display board makes it possible to the pupils to know all the advertisements, such as the date of the next weekend with Pre-with-Bacon, but also of the students seeking to sell or buy books of second hand, to exchange charts of Chocogrenouille etc
In the common room, there are two staircases, one leads to the seven dormitories of the boys (for each year) and the other with the seven dormitories of the girls. A fate was thrown to the staircases of the girls so that if a boy poses a foot on the first walk and continues to advance, an alarm starts and the staircase is transformed temporarily into a long stone toboggan, making it return to its starting point. According to the history of Poudlard , the founders thought that the girls were worthier of confidence than the boys: while the staircase of the girls is magic to prevent the boys from going up, the staircase of the boys was subjected to no enchantment. Each dormitory is a circular part with windows which give on the field and furnished with five canopied fourposter beds.
The house is currently directed by Minerva McGonagall, assistant editor of the school and professor of métamorphose.
No pupil of Gryffondor joined the rows of the Mangemorts during the rise of Voldemort, except for Peter Pettigrow.
