Gross tonnage

The gross tonnage is a measurement of the transport capacity of a Navire. It is expressed in gross register tons or tjb , or in cubic meters. A gross register ton is worth 100 cubic feet, that is to say approximately 2,832 m 3 . It is also expressed in UMS (see article Tonnage). In France, the administration in load of the calculation of gauge is the service of the Douane S, the clear gauge is used of scale with the evaluation of the harbor taxes and as piloting. The gross tonnage is used for the application of certain maritime regulations (e.g.: grant of patents).
