Grosne

Grosne is a commune of the Territoire of Belfort which belongs to the canton of Grandvillars. With the census of 1999, the village counted 246 inhabitants whereas it gathered of them 309 in 1803. It is located at 15 km of Belfort, at the variation of the main roads and 360 m above the sea level.
The territory of Grosne was crossed by a Roman way of secondary importance which connected Vellescot and Recouvrance. In 1105 the town hall of Grosne and its parish extended on the localities close to Boron, Vellescot, Recouvrance, Brebotte, Eschêne and the village disappeared from Normanvillars. Petit-Croix was not whereas a simple vault attached to Grosne. To this Ermentrude date, widow of Thierry Ier count of Montbeliard-Ferrette, gives the stronghold of Grosne to the priory of Froidefontaine. In 1125 the county is divided between Frederic Ier count of Ferrette and Thierry II, count of Montbeliard. Froidefontaine and Grosne then form part of the county of Ferrette. In 1454, the stronghold passed in the hands of the lords of Montjoie who preserved it until in 1630. The incomes of the church were perceived by the priory of Froidefontaine until in 1621, by the Jesuits of Ensisheim until in 1764 and finally by the royal college of Colmar until the Révolution
