Grishnákh

In the work of J.R.R. Tolkien, Grishnakh is a Orque with the service of Sauron, kidnapper of Peregrin Touque and Meriadoc Brandebouc, which appears in the Lord of the Rings: The Two Turns . He is described there like " a creature of short size and strong breadth, with the twisted legs and the long arms which fell almost until terre" . He dies during the Guerre of the Ring, the night from February 28th to 29th 3019 () during an attack of the Rohirrim.

Grishnakh is an Orc messenger of the Mordor to the service of Sauron. At the time of the War of the Ring, he is a captain with the head of a patrol of about fifty Orcs of Mordor whose mission consists in intercepting the Communauté of the Ring and to recover the Single Anneau for their Master. He join a company of Uruk-hai of Saroumane, Isengardiens, and other Orcs of the Moria in Rohan. After the attack of the Community with Amon Hen on the edges of the Anduin, during which Boromir is killed, they manage to capture Merry and Pippin.

Grishnakh is extremely intelligent for its race. It is the only one with knowing that what Sauron and Saroumane seek is the Single Ring. He hates over any Saroumane which he considers, rightly, like a traitor. Consequently, it is very suspicious with regard to Isengardiens. It seems to be quite informed on the projection of the preparations of war in Mordor. Grishnakh, faithful to its starting mission, thinks that the Hobbits must be led to Mordor and it parlemente with Uglúk, chief of Uruk-hai, which him must lead them alive to Saroumane, in Isengard. Then, it leaves the group temporarily and transmits a message to Mordor. It returns with a troop of Orcs of Mordor carrying the emblem of Sauron, the red eye. It must find a solution to conceal the two Hobbits in Isengardiens, it then encourages a rebellion of the latter against Ugluk which refuses to make a halt in spite of a continuous race and at an intensive pace of several days and nights. They claim also fresh meat, which relates to Pippin and Merry directly! But the Uruk-hai chief takes care and confrontation costs the life an orc which approached too close the invaluable preys. Benefitting from the confusion which follows, Merry and Pippin escape vigilance from their cerberi and try to flee. At this moment, the Orcs and Uruk-hai are attacked, with the edge of the Forêt of Fangorn, by a patrol of Riders of Rohan ordered by Éomer. But Grishnakh is after them, it seizes the occasion to hold them itself, believer that one of them is the carrier of the Single Ring and conceals them in Ugluk by drawing aside them from the place of the combat. Pippin realizes that Grishnakh knows something in connection with the Ring, it claims whereas it can help it to find it. Whereas, listening to only its greed, it is about to kill its prisoners rather than to let them escape, an arrow crosses the hand to him and it is then transpierced by the lance of a Rohirrim. The two Hobbits, wrapped their gray elfic capes, become invisible and manage to flee in the Forest of Fangorn.
