Biography

Grimonie, girl of the king of Ireland, was born within a family strongly attached to the worship from the idols (Paganisme) It, at the twelve years age, educated of the catholic dogma will and be baptized without the knowledge of his/her parents and its close relations,

To this moment, it devotes its life to the Christ and gets busy with the prayer, with the meditation and its virginity dedicates to him.

When it was in age to marry, his/her father and suzerain wished to link it with one of noblest and richer lords of Ireland. At the dawn of the ceremony, Grimonie disappears and flees in order to escape this marriage. After many research, one found it with knees in an isolated place and one brought back it close to his father. This last not supporting the idea that his/her daughter refuses with the man that it chose to him, decides to make it imprison. This prison is, for the young virgin, a temple where it spends her days to be requested with enthusiasm in order to testify to her attachment and its fidelity to Christ.

This one does not forsake it, it dispatches near her one of her angels with for mission of delivering it and of addressing a message to him: " you raise Grimonie, the doors of your cell are opened, leave and direct you towards the sea "

The young virgin flees under the protection of the Christ, made on the coast it finds a ship ready to leave, it embarks there. During the crossing the vessel essuie an alarming storm letting think that the shipwreck would be inevitable. Grimonie, fearing for the life of the crew, is thrown to knees by beseeching the Lord to have pity of the sailors. Its prayer is exaucée, the floods are alleviated and the vessel unloads the young virgin on the coasts of the Gaulle - Belgium, or the emperor Valentinien protects the Catholics.

After these events, Grimonie decides to live in the absolute loneliness, and to make vow of chastity. It thus settles with deepest forests of the Thiérache (Thérascia) and stops in a place named Dorunum (Current Capelle) It devotes its days, and part of its nights, between prayers, meditation and penitence.

Of dimensioned sound, his/her father dispatches soldiers with his research with for mission of bringing back it alive or dead. After information, they end up learning that a ship had left the island in direction of the continent. They embark and learn, on their arrival, that a foreign young person, of great virtue and of great piety, residence in the middle of the forest had elected.

The soldiers traverse the forest a few times before being suddenly in front of it. They made all their possible to convince it to turn over in their country or from sumptuous weddings awaited it. The recognition carried the inhabitants to build a vault on its tomb. Soon, one ran there of all shares in order to collect oneself and to beseech the Holy one. Progressively, of the houses rose around the sanctuary and the number of pilgrims will not cease increasing. The village of Capelle was born, François 1st will set up it in borough.

At the time of a war whose Thiérache was the theater, Capelle was almost destroyed and delivered to the flames. Certain inhabitants showed themselves prompter to save the relics of their owner than to save themselves. They transported hunting to Lesquielles, a village located at a few miles, where the relics of Holy Proof were already preserved.

The many wars between local lords forced the inhabitants to hide under ground their invaluable relics. They remained there until the beginning of XIIIe century.

With the wire of the history

  • 1215 - 1238 - Anselme de Mauny, bishop-duke of Laon, wanted to check by itself the many miracles operated by the invocation of Holy Grimonie and Holy Proof. It was thus transported in Lesquielles and raised ground the bodies of the two Holy ones. (cf the official report contresigned by Jean Lequeux, Alderman of the country)

  • 1389 - a new recognition of the relics will take place Tuesday of Pentecost per Philippe de Grummelly, senior of the Christendom of Own way and priest of Lesquielles.

  • 1535 - the abbot of the monastery of Bohéries, with the agreement of the bishop of Laon, Louis of Bourbon-Vendôme, will transfer the relics from Holy Grimonie and Holy Proof in new huntings.

  • 1538 - During the war between François 1st and the imperial ones, the priory of Lesquielles was delivered to the flames by the count de Nassau and by Adrien de Croï, count de Rœux and governor of the Flandres and the Artois. This last will seize the relics and will make them certify by Baudouin de Mol, abbot of Bohéries.

  • 1540 - the abbot of Bohéries will make gift of the relics to the regular canons of Saint-Augustin of the abbey of Notre-Dame de Hénion-Lietard to the diocese of Arras.

  • 1638 - Robert de Mallebranche, abbot of the monastery will make the recognition of it and the authenticity of the relics noted some.

  • 1639 - Deposit of the Holy relics in four new huntings.

  • 1748 - the Hénin-Liétard abbot, named Dujardin, opens huntings with the authorization of Mgr Baglion of the Room, bishop of Arras, and withdraws from it a Holy relic of Holy Grimonie and another of Holy Proof and seals them in two receptacles. It makes give both limp, sealed and sealed, with the church of Lesquielles.

  • 1789 - At the beginning of the French revolution, and in preparation for possible profanations, the Holy relics and the statements authenticating their origins secretly are withdrawn and replaced by common bones.

  • 1795 - the free exercise of all the worships is restored by the National Convention. The Inhabitants of Lesquielles make rebuild two new huntings and on April 30th of the same year, authentic Saintes relics of Holy Grimonie and Holy Proof reinstates their places.
