Grimarest

Jean-Léonor the Welshman , sior of Grimarest (1659 - August 23rd 1713), is one of the most former biographers of Molière.

In 1705 appears its Vie of Mr. de Molière . It is known that Grimarest carried out a serious survey to write this biography, it questioned in particular Michel Baron, actor of the Troupe of Molière, and the girl of the Dramaturge.

This first biography is the source of all those which were written since, this is why the researchers are careful as for this work. We thus should trust Grimarest which did not know Molière and which was not present at the time of its death (it did not have whereas 15 years). But, say he, “ I believed that I was to enter in detail of dead of Molière, for désabuser the public of several stories which one made on this occasion ”, the objective of Grimarest being to restore the truth on the death of Molière.
