Grigore Ureche (1590 - 1647) was a Moldavian chronicler which wrote a work on the history of the Moldavie, the Letopiseţul Ţării Moldovei ( Chronique of the country of Moldavie ), covering the period of 1359 until 1594.
Ureche ensured that the spoken language by the Moldavian was the same language as that spoken by the Valaques, and than the Moldavians, the Wallachians and the Transylvanian ones belonged to the same ethnicity. The prince and scholar Dimitrie Cantemir developed later this idea of identical ethnicity, which will be with the source of the rise of the Rumanian natonalism of the 18th century.
