Grigio alpina

The grigio alpina is a bovine race Italian.

Origin

It belongs to the brown Rameau. It is high in the Trentin-Haut-Adige, a border region of the Austria. This race arrived with Huns at the 5th century. It populated all is arc alpine and formed a great number of races to the Moyen-âge, each valley having selected its livestock. It is of an old type and does not have to be confused with the " bruna italiana" , Italian name of the Swiss Braunvieh, an intensive race imported at the 20th century for its dairy production.

The creation of its herd book goes back to 1981. In 2005, 25 thousand animals were indexed including 16.100 registered voters. It is primarily high in pure race in its area of production. Some exchanges of seed took place with the stockbreeders of Tiroler Grauvieh.

Morphology

It wears a gray dress silver plated, with darker nuances on the neck, the head and the sides. This dark part is accentuated in the bull. The mucous membranes are dark and the boor is haloed of light. The horns in the shape of isolated crescent are clear with point noire.
C' is a race of reduced size: 120-125 cm with the garrot.

Aptitudes

It is classified mixed with dominant dairy. Its milk is famous for the cheese-making production. It gives approximately 5000 kg by lactation with fat contents 3,83% and protein 3,38%. This production is excellent taking into account the roughness of the conditions of breeding without concentrated food. Its mixed classification comes from the speed of growth of its calves and from the good valorization bouchère of the cull cows on the local market.
It is rustic, vigorous and exploits well the pastures it has. It is a race raised in the system of summer in Alpage and winter with the cattle shed.
