Griesbach-with-valley

Griesbach-with-Valley is a common French, located in the department of the Haut-Rhin and the area Alsace.

History

The name of this village appeared in 1239 Grunzensbach pennies, which means “Gravel Brook”. The village belonged to Hattstatt in 1285, in Hus in 1379, then in Rappolstein into 1434 which will introduce the Réforme there. The castle of Schwarzenburg, built in 1261 by the solicitor of the Abbey of Munster, depended on the bishops of Basle since 1262. It was restored about 1500 and destroys by the wars of the XVIIe century. Griesbach-with-valley was used as station of observatory during the First World War.
