Within the framework of work of the Plane Delta, Grevelingen was closed and isolated from the sea by the construction of the Barrage S of the Grevelingendam in the east (completed in 1965 and of the Brouwersdam in the west (completed in 1971). Called since Grevelingenmeer , it constitutes more the big lake of salt water of Europe, and it is primarily intended for the Tourisme and the water sports. The salt rate is maintained by the Brouwerssluis , a lock located in the Brouwersdam, which makes it possible to feed the sea water lake.
