Beginnings of Grenoble

Founded in 1892, the FC Grenoble adheres to professionalism in 1942 after having hung a participation in the 32e of finale of the Coupe de France in 1926. Dismantled by the reforms of disastrous colonel Pascot, the section pro of the FCG shows his activities in 1945. This new experiment among the professionals is of short duration, fault of financial means: only one season! In 1951, after a five years eclipse, the Red and White however set out again with the attack of the championships pros.

The first division

Under the control of Albert Fornetti and Louis Desgranges, the Red and Blue Grenoble-native takes down the championship of D2 in 1960 and reaches for the first time of their history in D1… The first season of the Resident of Grenoble in the First Division has a bitter taste. Thus, the May 27th 1961, at the time of the last day, Grenoble moves with Valencian. The referee Mr. Lequesne grants a goal to Lubiato (44e) whereas obviously the ball passed in the small net, as will confirm it the Valenciennes-native players themselves. Valencians asserts (1-0) and Grenoble turns over in D2 by finishing 17th championship. But the club from the Dauphine will go up as of the following season by gaining one second time the championship of France of the second division. Unfortunately this new adventure within the elite of French football will be enclosed like the preceding one, with one 17th place at the end of the season, synonymous with retrogradation in the second division. In spite of François Remetter, Ruben Cheer (Argentinian), Lars Erikson (Swedish), Leongino Unzain (Paraguayan), all international, and Piatek (international junior) or Rouxel (international academic), to quote only them, the men of president Behr is then with the sorrow in D2.

New ambitions

Later, in the years 1980, the club re-examines its ambitions with the rise and the Grenoble-native public recovers to dream of the first division. But the team knows a new descent into Hell. And it is into 1997 that Olympic Grenoble Isere, founded in 1993 (emanation of the old FC Grenoble 1892) joins the other club Grenoblois (Norcap Grenoble) to become Grenoble Foot 38. After having vegetated in National and National 2 (Division 3 and 4) during almost 10 years, the club joined the second division at the time of the summer 2001.

In November 2004, the Japanese multinational " Corporation" index; becomes majority shareholder of the club by repurchasing the shares of the town of Grenoble. Kazutoshi Watanabe (number 3d' Index Corporation) assumes the chairmanship of the club then. After having made up the deficit of the club, he will undertake deep changes within the club by proposing the “Japanese” aspect of the club. The GF 38 will go until offering the services of international Japanese Oguro at the beginning of 2006, right before the world cup in Germany.

At the end of January 2008, mark a big step in the life of the club. Indeed, after the municipal stage Charles Berty, then the stage Lesdiguières, it is with the turn of the Stade of the Alps to take over in order to acceuillir the meetings of football in Grenoble.

Coupe de France

In Coupe de France, the FCG signs its best course in 1953 by reaching the quarterfinals after having eliminated inter alia Avion, Sedan and Lyon. The March 29th 1953, from the Dauphine ones lower house in front of the FC Nancy (2-0), future finalist of the test. Performance republished in 2001 with an elimination in prolongations vis-a-vis Troyes (2-4) then in 2005 this time at Sedan (2-1 ap), against the future finalist. Previously, the club had carried out the exploit to eliminate Lille 3-1 in Northern Stadium from Villeneuve d' Ascq.
