Grenade-on-the Adour is a common French, located in the department of the Landes and the area Aquitaine.
Its inhabitants are called Grenadois. It draws its name from the word Grenata, rich in grains.

History
founded Country house in 1322 by the English. The English occupation, which made the prosperity of the city, ceased in 1442. Damaged by Huguenots and in 1814 by Wellington. Passage of several sovereigns (Charles VII, Henri IV, Louis XIII). Located at the crossroads of Armagnac, Tursan and Chalosse, Grenade on Adour ( Terra Granata , ground rich in grains) is a frontier town on Adour. The establishment of the country house by the English in 1322 corresponded to a defensive and strategic objective. It made it possible to control navigation in direction of the ocean but also the crossing of the river for the North-South exchanges.The central place of the limes (5200m ²) is one of most important country houses landaises. Its vocation was always commercial. It is bordered of covers which constituted portions of whole streets with share. Small picturesque streets point out the existence of old fortifications: street of the ramparts, street of the old ditches, street of the covered way… While walking you you will also admire beautiful frontages with half-timberings.
The Gothic church of the 15th century altered at the 18th century is classified in the additional inventory of the historic buildings (ogival gate, very beautiful Deposition framed by the retable, chorus decorated with woodworks pulpit of the 18th century…).
June 13rd, 1944, during an action of the men of the maquis directed by Master Hurdy-gurdy, associated with the mayor, an important German convoy was intercepted with the doors of the city inflicting with the enemy significant losses. In reprisals, the population gathered on the public place and behavior under the threat of the machine-guns assisted, impotent, with the fire of its principal buildings and the arrest of fifty hostages of which good number were off-set. In June 1948, Grenade-on-the Adour made set up a stele in front of the town hall. November 11th of this same year, the city was quoted with the order of the army corps by the secretariat of State to the armed forces (war) receiving on June 12th, 1949, the Military Cross with star of vermeil.
The commune extends on close to 2 000 hectares. It owes its landscape of barthes in the passing of Adour which materializes the southern border of its territory and confers on the accesses of the Country house a very pleasant framework.
Strong of its 2305 inhabitants, in constant population growth, Grenade is thus affirmed as gravitational the more so as the local economic dynamic is characterized by a commercial fabric and services very packed, which benefits so much the inhabitants than with customers of passage related to the Bordeaux-Pau road axis. The richness of the activity associative, sporting, cultural, benefits from a broad whole of municipal equipment.
Side tourism, it can be also prevailed of structures of famous lodging and restoration as well as cultural activities and discoveries (hiking trails, buckles 12 km).

Places and monuments
- Church of Grenade : The Gothic church whose origin goes back to the 15th century has its frontage with two turns, built in 1833 with the image of Sulpice saint. A very beautiful Deposition is framed by the retable, in the chorus decorated with woodworks.

Arcades : As an old country house, the place of Grenade on Adour still comprises on two sides of the arcades.
- Banks of Adour : The banks of Adour, equipped with tables and benches allowing spade to screw on the spot, offer a pleasant place of walk under the trees.

Pediment : The Moors are a department in which is practiced the Basque ball, which explains the presence of a pediment on one of the places of Grenade on Adour.

Shelter : A certain number of shelters, some restored like this one, are still in the village.
Personalities related to the commune
- Alain Vidalies, Politician French, born the March 17th 1951 with Grenade-on-the Adour.
- Antoine Simon Durrieu, General French, born in 1775 with Grenade-on-the Adour.
- Jean-Louis Vielle alias Rene was born with Geaune (Moors) the January 22nd 1895. After the invasion of the free Zone, it becomes an agent of the Hilaire-Buckmaster network, then chief of the resistance in the town of Grenade. He was killed in the night of the 12 with the June 13rd 1944, at the time of a combat which took place on the territory of Bordères-and-Lamensans (Moors) to the locality " Maras" , whereas it ordered a group of ten resistant charged to attack a German convoy. It was cut down by a wounded German officer who called for the aid and auprès of which it had approached. As reprisals, the Germans carried out Grenade arrests following this ambush. 30 civilians will be stopped, 17 deportees alone 7 survived. The main street of Grenade-on-L' Adour bears today its name and its memory is honoured each year on June 13rd.
- Jean Cassaigne, born in Grenade on Adour on January 30th, 1895, left as missionary on the high plateaus the Vietnam in 1926 when it founded the leper-house of Djiring. Appointed bishop of Saigon in 1941, he resigns in 1955 after having detected the first signs of leprosy on his body. He joined the leper-house of Djiring where he dies on October 31st, 1973.
