Gregoire XV

Alessandro Ludovisi (Bologna, January 19th 1554 - Rome, July 8th 1623) was the 234e pope of the Catholic church. Elected official the February 9th 1621, it took the name of Gregoire XV (in Latin Gregorius XV , in Italian Gregorio XV ) and reigned a little more than two years. Its pontificate was completed with its death, the July 8th 1623. “ In tribulatione pacis ” in the Prophecy of Saint Malachie.

By the bubble Inscrutabili divinæ providentiæ (1622), it founded the Congrégation of Propaganda, in charge of the propagation of the faith. It set up Paris in archbishop's palace and promoted cardinal Richelieu .
