Gregoire VIII (antipape)
Gregoire VIII (Maurice Bourdin), born in France in the the Limousin and died in 1126, antipape of 1118 with 1121.
It passed towards 1095 in Portugal, became archbishop of Braga, and crowned the emperor Henri V of the Holy roman Empire in spite of the defense of the pope. Henri, dissatisfied with the pope Gélase II, opposed Bourdin to him and in 1118 under the name of Gregoire VIII made it elect; but this prince having given up it soon, Bourdin lives himself besieged in Sutri by Calixte II, successor of Gélase: he was taken and locked up in a monastery, where it morut in 1122.
