Gregoire Kayibanda
Gregoire Kayibanda (May 1st 1924 - December 15th 1976) was the first president of the Rwanda.
Kayibanda was born with Tare on May 1st, 1924 in the south from Rwanda. It carried out the fight with the support of the Rwandan Catholic church and the Belgium to reverse monarchy Tutsi and obtained then independence, Belgium having been forced by UNO to grant independence to Rwanda. Kayibanda, an Hutu married to Tutsi, made it possible the majority component of the Hutu to seize the power as such, by driving out the Tutsi monarchy which the colonizers had consolidated in its capacities since 1894.
Kayibanda was elected President of the Republic the October 26th 1961 by the elected legislative assembly the day before. Its presidency ended the July 5th 1973 following the coup d'etat organized by its Minister for the defense Juvénal Habyarimana, which replaced it.
It was assigned with residence with Rwerere, in the prefecture of Ruhengeri, and then, after the death of his wife, in its house of Kavumu close to Gitarama. He was condemned to died by the N° decree 0001/74/CM of the martial court on June 29th, 1974. Its sorrow was commuted to life imprisonment on decision of Juvénal Habyarimana. He would have died of hunger and lack of care, voluntarily cut his children by the capacity, isolated in his house of Kivumu - died qualified the natural one by the Habyarimana mode.
