Greensboro

Greensboro is a Ville of North Carolina to the the United States. It is the seat of the Comté of Guilford. It is more the big city in the area of the Triade of Piedmont. The city is located at the intersection of the interstate highway 85 and 40. In 2000, the city counted 223.891 inhabitants.

According to the estimates of 2004, the population of the city is estimated at 231.962 inhabitants and the metropolitan zone of Greensboro- High Point account 667.547 inhabitants. Greensboro is in the middle of a conurbation (Triad of Piedmont) which counts 1.490.886.

History

Founded in 1808, the city is thus named Greensboro in homage to the general Nathanael Greene, hero of the battle of Guilford Court House (March 15th 1781). American lost the battle but the victory of Pyrrhic slowed down enough the British forces of the General Charles Cornwallis to make it possible American to demolish them with the Bataille of Yorktown, in October 1781.

In 1840, Greensboro was chosen by the government of state and the Gouverneur Morehead, to become a railway hub. The city is the seat of the Greensboro Grasshoppers (SAL), which is the major team of Baseball of the city, they evolve/move in First Horizon Park. It also has a team of Soccer, the Carolina Dynamo (USL). The Chrysler Classic off Greensboro is the oldest tournament of golf of PGA Tour.
