Green party of Saskatchewan

The green Parti Saskatchewan ( Green Party off Saskatchewan ) is a political party active ecologist at the provincial level in Saskatchewan (Canada).

It is founded in 1998 under the name New Green Alliance (NGA) by militants ecologists frustrated by what they perceive like a displacement towards the line of the Nouveau Democratic party, social democrat, under Roy Romanow. Contrary to several green parties in Canada, the NGA is definitely of left, preaching for example the progressive imposition, the working rights and the elimination of poverty. The partisans of the NGA believed that the green Parti of Canada and the green Parti Ontario are primarily parties éco-capitalists because they preach the excise duties and are opposed to the imposition personal income and companies. The NGA was also opposed to privatization companies of the Crown. As a party ecologist, the NGA supported ecological agriculture and the use ecological and right of the forest resources. The NGA preaches peace and non-violence, and strongly gives an opinion against the Guerre in Iraq, contrary to the green Party of Canada.

The NGA has present candidates at the time of the provincial elections in Saskatchewan, without succeeding in gaining seats with the legislative Assemblée of Saskatchewan. At the time of the general election of 2003, the NGA introduces 27 candidates, receiving only 2504 votes (approximately 0,5% of the voices); the NPD receives 189.000 from them. This marks a decline since the election of 1999, where the party had collected 5% of the voices in the 16 districts where it had introduced candidates.

With the congress of 2005 of the party, the members vote to change the name of the party to become the green Parti Saskatchewan , because “ party vert ” is a more recognizable name for the voters and because the word “ alliance ” carried to confusion. The party is now affiliated with the green Parti of Canada.
