Green line (Lebanon)

The Green line was a line of demarcation with Beirut, the capital of the Lebanon, during the Lebanese civil war of 1975 with 1990. It separated the Moslems from Beirut-West of the Christians of Beirut-Is. This name refers to the color of the vegetation which had thrived all along the line, since the zone was uninhabited. The majority of the buildings on the line were severely damaged during the war. Since the end of the hostilities, much of them were however rebuilt.
