The Green League (in Finnish: Vihreä liitto , Vihr. ) is a Political party Finnish of tendency ecologist, founded in 1987. He is member of the Parti Green European. The current leader is Tarja Cronberg elected at this station in 2005.
Ideology
The green League is not any more one party of protest or a reciprocating motion. The party found is placed at the center-left, with a political diary based on the ecological problems. However, much of green candidates reject their classification on the left or on the right of the political chessboard.
In its program, the League criticizes the market economy as well as socialism, because both would be unable to take care of the environment, of the developing countries or of the future generations and would concentrate too much on the economic growth. The major principles of the program of the party are environmental protection, the participative democracy and social justice.
At the room of the Parliament and in the Local assemblies, the Greens sit between the Parti of the Center and the social democrat Parti.
History of the green League
National party
The party was founded on February 28th 1987 and recorded like Political party the following year.
The political activities ecologists however had already started with the beginning of the year 1980, when feminist activists environmentalists, and other active groups launched campaigns on environmental sets of themes. In 1983, the first two deputies ecologists were elected at the national parliament, before even the foundation of the party: they were the first independent deputies at the Finnish Parliament.
The number of seat passed to four in 1987, then to ten in 1991. The green League obtained nine seats in 1995 and joined the national government carried out by the social democrat Parti. Pekka Haavisto was then named Minister of environment and for the development assistance. He is the second European to have been minister in a national government, after Indulis Emsis, minister in the Latvian government as of 1993.
In 1999, the Greens obtained 7.3% of the voices and eleven seats. They remained with the government until May 26th 2002, date on which they left the government coalition to protest against the decision to build a news Nuclear plant. In 2003, they obtained 8% of the voices and 14 seats, then, into 2007,8.5% of the voices and 15 seats. They entered then again to the government where they occupy from now on two ministries: that of work (Tarja Cronberg) and that of justice (Tuija Brax).
It also has a European deputy, member of the group Verts/ALE.

The green League is an important party in more the big cities of Finland. With Helsinki, the capital, it became the second party of the city in 2000 by obtaining 23.5% of the votes. It is the third party of several other cities.It has on the other hand more sorrow to be established in the rural regions victims of phenomena of depopulation.
