Green Bay is a town of 102.313 inhabitants located in the state of the Wisconsin at the the United States. It is historically the first colony of the actual position of Wisconsin and was rested by the explorer French, Jean Nicolet, in 1634, under the name of the Bay of Puants .
It has a team of American football, the Packers de Green Bay.

History

A small post office was established in Green-Bay in 1634 by the explorer French Canadian Jean Nicolet. In 1671 a mission Jésuite was installed there; at that time the village named " Baye" or " the Bay of Puants". A fort was added in 1717. The city was built-in 1754, and passed under British control in 1761. As the number of English colonists became increasingly important compared to the number of French colonists, the name of " Green Bay" became used couremment. In 1783 the city was added to the the United States.

The United States Army built the Fort Howard on banks of the Fox in 1816. The first Newspaper of Wisconsin, The Green Bay Intelligencer , was published in Green Bay in 1833. In 1850 the city has a population of 1923 inhabitants. The city was reincorporated as a town of Green Bay in 1854. The Green Bay Area Public School District was founded in 1856. The way of railroad was posed in the years 1860. In 1950 the city had a population of 52.735 inhabitants.

According to a census of 2005, there are 102.313 people with Green Bay. The Greater Green Bay Area counted approximately 279.485 people in 2000 including 141.591 households, and 124.663 families resident in the city.

The United States Census Bureau established that the Community répartion of the population was the following one:
On the 41.591 households of Green Bay, 30,6% have a child of less than 18 years, 44,1% are married couples, 10,8% do not have husbands present, and 40,7% are not families. 31,6% of these households are made of a person including 9,9% of a person of 65 or more.
The Middle Age of the population is 33 years. For 100 women it there 97,2 men. For 100 women of 18 or more, there are 94,8 men.

The average revenue of a household is of 29.082 € ($ 38.820), and that of a family of 36 467,12€ ($48 678). The men have an average revenue of 24 906,90€ ($33 246) against 17 848,97€ ($23 825) for the women. The average revenue per capita is of 14 435,76€ ($19 269). Nearly 7,4% to the families and 10,5% of the population lives in lower part of the Poverty line, including 12,7% of those in 18 year old lower part and 9,2% of those of 65 and more.

The city is known for its low level of criminality in the United States for a municipality of its size or larger.

Religion

The city is the seat of the Diocèse of Green Bay whose bishop is David Allen Zubik. The Cathédrale of Saint Francis Xavier in Green Bay is the principal church of the diocese. The diocese is in the province of the Archidiocèse of Milwaukee. In 2000, American Religion Dated File reported that Green Bay was in catholic majority (71,5%), with the Luthérien S composing an additional unit of 16,4%. The 12% remainder are almost entirely composed of Protesting S.

Media

The newspaper of Green Bay is the Green Bay Near-Gazette . Another local newspaper, the Green Bay News-Chronicle ceased publishing in 2005.
