Grecquage

The grecquage is one of the stages of the process of the Reliure. It consists to notch on the back of volume using a Hand saw. These notches will receive the nerves which will not be consequently projecting any more compared to the back of the books.

After having ballotté volume by the back and the tète, in order to equalize well the Cahier S, the Relieur places it between two frames , which are Ais thicker on a side than of the other, so that volume left 6 to 8 millimetres, it places it in the press and tightens it very slightly. As the frames are thicker side of the back than on the side of the section, they tighten the back more and hold better subjugated volume. Then it makes with the saw the notches necessary a depth equal to the diameter of the nerves. Above the Greek first , and below the last, it gives a light blow of saw to place the chain .

In the process of industrial gluing, the grecquage is automated. Practiced on the documents with the thick back, the notches aim to improve has penetration of the adhesive in paper before the installation of the cover.
