Great Raid
The Grand Raid is the natural main thing Raid organized with the Meeting. Organized in the month of October, probably one of most difficult of the world in its kind, the test consists of the crossing of the island.
Its departure is given in the south-east of the island, with Saint-Joseph or Saint-Philippe. The 2.200 competitors thus start the race by the rise of the solid mass of the Piton of the Furnace. They continue then their efforts in the natural circuses of the island, among which Cilaos and Mafate.
The arrival is judged after approximately 20 hours of race for best, at the stage of Redoute, Saint-Denis. In fact, the participants thus cross the island of south-east to the North-East while passing by the Tops, that is to say a course of 140 kilometers including/understanding 8.000 meters of uneven positive, which is worth with the race the nickname of Diagonale of Insane the .
The time limits to finish the course are 62 hours…
Results
In 2006, Vincent Delebarre and Christophe Jacquerod gains the race hand in the hand in front of Réunionnais Wilfrid Ouledi, Thierry Chambry, Nico Dijoux and Thierry Techer, in this order. The preceding edition had been gained by Charles Fontaine.
