Gray cores

In Neuroanatomie, the gray cores (or basal cores ) indicated a disparate whole of nervous structures which what is called included today the Ganglions of the base but also of other gray structures Sous-cortical are.

The terms gray cores refer to work of Charles Foix and Jean Nicolesco published in their book, the cerebral Anatomie. Gray cores and the area mesencephalo-under-optics ; followed by an appendix on the pathological anatomy of the Parkinson's disease, in 1925 which marked the anatomical Systématique in country Francophone S. This label recovered a whole of disparate elements that the history took a long time at déméler (and who will be later detailed). Moreover, the central Adjectif did not correspond to a precise anatomical definition. This terminology thus was given up and replaced by system of the Ganglions of the base , used internationally. One can nevertheless note that the term Ganglion is not either ideal, and even inadequate for an element of the central Nervous system. In spite of that, by practice, the expression gray cores (or its English equivalent, rarer, central grey nuclei ) remains occasionally employed in the scientific publications contemporary.

The system of the Ganglions of the base is made up of the Striatum, of the Pallidum, the Substantia will nigra, of the Noyau subthalamic and other structures more recently introduced. One thus needs réinsister on the fact that the gray cores are not a strict anatomical equivalent of the system of the ganglia of the base.
