Grasshopper

The grasshoppers are insects Orthoptère S commun runs almost everywhere in the world and which move while jumping using their long posterior legs. If a leg is torn off to them, it cannot fly because they cannot be propelled any more. But if they are launched it can automatically fly.

The name “grasshopper” is reserved by the specialists for certain species orthoptères with long antennas belonging to the family Tettigoniidae (in the past Ensifère S). In the language running the name is often also used for the species of the sub-order Caelifera , which have short antennas, but the latter are more correctly called Sauteriau X or Criquet S.

In France, the Tettigonia viridissima or large green grasshopper is very current. It is sometimes confused with the Tettigonia cantans whose wings are much more courtes.

The grasshoppers all are well adapted to the jump. The female has a Oviscapte ( tettigonia cantans Ci below) more or less long in the shape of saber.
