Granularity

The concept of granularity defines the size of the smallest element, of the largest smoothness of a system. When one arrives at the level of granularity of a system, one cannot cut out information any more.

For example in a Population, the granularity is the individu.
In Physique the granularity was the Atome a long time.

Granularity in Photography

It should not be confused with the Granulation . The granularity is an objective concept resulting from an statistical analysis while the granulation a subjective concept, an impression.
