Grants Not
Grants Pass is an American city, seat of the Comté of Josephine in the Oregon, whose popuplation is estimated in 2006 at 30.930 inhabitants. The city was baptized to celebrate the victory of the general Grant with Vicksburg.
History
Hunters and trappers of the Compagnie of Hudson Bay were the first white men to pass on the site in the years 1820. Colonists who moved towards the Vallée of Willamette travelled through the site in the years 1840. The first post office was built in 1865 and the city was built-in 1887, one year after being become the seat of the Comté of Josephine.
Geography
The city is located at the south of the Oregon, along the Interstate 5 in the North-West of Medford at the edge of the river Rogue. The climate is of Mediterranean type with hot and dry summers and soft and wet winters.
Economy
Historically the economy of the city was based on the exploitation of wood but today tourism is the principal econmic activity of the city (rafting on the river Rogue, Cavernes of Oregon).
